History
Founded four decades ago by Lorraine Lund, STEPS Montessori of Saginaw originated with a small cohort of 20 kids. Our school has since flourished into a community of over 60 learners and expert AMS-certified faculty, becoming a pillar of the Great Lakes Bay Region. We operate proudly as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) focused on local academic excellence and growth.
The early years of childhood serve as the essential cornerstone for any future academic achievements. Our mission is to prepare every student for their first step into education through our specialized preschool programs. With guidance from AMS-certified educators, we strive to ignite a sense of wonder in every child. We are devoted to a high-quality curriculum that prepares our students for a lifelong journey of curious exploration and continuous development.
Our Principles

Student Led Classrooms
Our Montessori classrooms foster student led independent learning while Montessori teachers provide active support. Your student will work alongside peers based on their mastery and comprehension levels rather than their chronological age.

Advanced Academics
Our curriculum spans more than basic literacy. Students investigate planetary science, maps, biology, and learn practical skills. They also participate in music lessons and are introduced to foreign languages.

Hands on Learning
Students learn the importance of maintaining their personal space and respecting the personal space of other students. Students are also taught to clean up after themselves through daily stewardship.
Furthermore, in our Montessori classrooms, our goal  is to ensure that the students are utilizing natural materials as much as possible during classroom instruction.

Close Knit Community of Families
All of our Montessori teachers get to personally know all of the students within the school. This is part of our philosophy of becoming a tight knit community of families. Like any neighborhood, each classroom is similar to a unique home, yet all of them share the same educational values. We have student led conferences that occur twice a year to track progress. We organize frequent field trips for the students to experience hands-on learning. We also provide teacher-led valet drop off in the mornings to make the students feel more comfortable and to help out busy parents.
